Hi, it's Abigail Quinn Michel, just call me Abbey. Mark your calendars, my birthday is August 24, 2009. So my birthday is shared with Dave Chappelle, Howard Zinn, and most importantly my great uncle Mike (budget appropriately, 80-20 for me is about right).

We had a bit of a bumpy ride getting me here, leave it to my parents to drive 25 minutes just to start active labor in a La-Z-Boy @ The Birth Center Exam Room 3 for a few hours. After a brief pit stop where I thought I might jump out in the parking lot, we made it to an actual labor suite at Bryn Mawr where I threw my first tantrum and decided I wasn't coming out. Mom wasn't having it and pushed me out @ 16:55 (memo to self: Mom is really really strong maybe not the best idea to have a battle of wills with her, Dad seems like easy pickin's though.)

So I'm here stats for nerds like my Dad and Uncle Steve:

weight = 7lbs 15oz
length = 22 in

So the parents brought me home, my first full day at home was spent breaking in new parents (not easy with these two). Mostly I eat and sleep but and I did try out my swing, IMHO the swing is way nicer without the batteries, but I let dad have fun with all the buttons and switches for a little while.

Watching this "team" change my diaper is pretty pathetic so I upped the difficulty by letting them think I was finished and then let them have it ...this was followed immediately by my first bath.

Uncle Nate and Aunt 'Reen saved me from the monotony of the Dad and Mom rotation. My first visitors @ home! I really liked being held by Uncle Nate, he has such soft hands for a big guy, I mean his hands are like baby soft. Think it must be a PSU thing, JoePa's head has been about as soft as Nate's hands for about 10 years.

PS Aunt 'Reen if you're reading this, Dad already cut into the cake that you made for my birthday, he even ate it in front of me - not cool.

So lately people have been asking a lot about what I'm listening to (something about my hearing). Pops and I have been exploring music together. He's hopeless as a dancer but I actually like his singing. Mommy is ok, but her lyric issues are too much; "Cartwheels on a Gravel Road" sounds painful but "Scuse me while I kiss this guy" is truly sacrilege. Moms, I love you but apparently both you and Woody Harrelson can't hear Jimi.

So far my (admittdly eclectic) top five:

5) Waiting on an Angel, Ben Harper (dad's been working on this one and it shows)

4) Seether, Veruca Salt (sometimes a girls just gotta rage...'round here the seether is not Louise)

3) Beverly Hills, Weezer (well, I like Undone - the sweater song but dad's voice has too much grit to pull that off "whoo-e-oohh-ee-ooh" hurts my ears)

2) Hey Girl, OAR (Longer jam that gets me ready for sleep)

1) Learning to Fly, Tom Petty (Sorry Uncle Steve but Auntie Beth is right) or possibly Ladybug Picnic from Sesame Street

I have to mention some of our local artists. First, from the old school, the Dead Milkmen Punk Rock Girl. Yes, this was and hopefully will be dad's only publicly performed karaoke (Dad, remember you're not just embarassing yourself anymore). Another local I like is Erik Mitchell, I can't count that high yet, but 21 Blackbirds is dark and cool. Dad prefers The House of Osiris but this is my blog. When I escaped the photoshoot I discovered a costume I like... as soon as I get out of the house off come the antennae, wings, and carapace. Then I'm a old skool jailbird; fitting when I'm living with these two Keystone Kops. Although dad insists I look like the Hamburglar it's still way cooler than a ladybug or a pumpkin, right people?

It's been awhile, but I'm up late thinking about hitting the big 5.0 [month] mark tomorrow. I'm so much more mature and self aware than I was even last month!

I've even popped two teeth - bring on the solid foods! I'm sooo tired of the same thing day after day... What's for breakfast? Breastmilk. What's for dinner? Hmm! let me guess BREASTMILK again, grrr. Dr. Zavod better make it clear to these two that I'm ready for cereal when we see him on Monday or I'm just gonna scream.

Daddy and I made-up a new dance today to the Discovery Channel commercial/song - you know the "I love the whole world..." (link here... Fair warning, it tends to get stuck in your head) with a little help from Dad I sort of wiggle around until the "BOOM-De-Yada" part when dad swings me way up in the air and we laugh like crazy. Now all Daddy has to say is "BOOM-de-yada" with his crazy wild-eyed look and I start giggling like a fool. Daddy asked me not to tell Mommy about it because she will be cross with him. I'm not exactly sure why, it could be:

(a) Mommy will be frustrated that not only does Daddy let me watch tv but it's nerdy Mythbusters re-runs.
(b) Momma-bear is very protective of her cub and doesn't trust Dad not to bounce my head off the ceiling.
(c) Daddy is supposed to be rehabbing his shoulder and Mommy wants to be there to say "I told you so." when his arm falls off from swinging me around.
(d) Some combination of all of the above.

Regardless, I doubt Mommy will find out, this is like my electronic diary and I can't imagine her reading it.

P.S. I think Dad just likes the Stephen Hawking part of the tune (apparently Hawking is like some sort of nerd-god) but the world is just AWESOME @ 5 months.

NASA may have given up on the Spirit (http://xkcd.com/695/) but I think I could drive it out with careful manipulation of all the controls provided on my sophisticated simulator. It's all a matter of getting things calibrated, maybe I should call Uncle Steve... nah, he'll just bring bunch of Italians with him to drink coffee and watch me do the work. Now mother quit distracting me!!
